About Our Factory

We are a family-owned factory operating as PT Coco Total Essential Oil Indonesia (NPWP: 61.158.372.6-723.000, NIB: 8955548793700), located at Jl. Mayor Unus KM 1.5, Magelang 56172, Central Java, Indonesia.

Manufacturing started in 1984 with virgin coconut oil. In 1996 we added clove essential oil. In 2001 we expanded into patchouli oil production, sourcing premium dried leaves from Aceh's Gayo highlands, North Sumatra, and South Sulawesi — the regions that make Indonesia the world's largest patchouli producer, supplying roughly 85–90% of global demand. Since 2025 we export our essential oils directly worldwide — bypassing local middlemen. We supply wholesale bulk patchouli oil, iron-free grades, aged patchouli, and offer OEM (private label) manufacturing.

Today we export to 18 countries across North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and the Middle East — serving fine fragrance houses, cosmetic and personal-care formulators, aromatherapy brands, soap and candle makers, pharmaceutical companies, and trading companies worldwide.

Why patchoulol content drives the contract price

Patchoulol is the molecule responsible for patchouli oil's exceptional fixative power — its ability to anchor and extend the longevity of every other note in a perfume composition. Fine fragrance houses formulate against minimum patchoulol thresholds (typically ≥ 30 %) and pay sliding-scale premiums above 32 % and 34 %.

Our three grades target distinct patchoulol bands: Standard Dark (28–32 %) for industrial fragrance, soap, and detergent applications; Light Iron-Free (32–35 %) for cosmetic OEMs and mid-tier perfumery; Molecular Distilled (35 %+) for prestige perfumery and applications requiring near-colorless oil with maximum fixative density.

Patchoulol level is reported on every COA, accompanied by the raw GC-MS chromatogram showing the patchoulol peak and the authenticity markers α-bulnesene and α-guaiene.

Quality Assurance, Authenticity & Anti-Adulteration Protocol

Patchouli oil is one of the most frequently adulterated essential oils on the global commodity market — common adulterants include Gurjun balsam, cedarwood fractions, synthetic patchoulol, vegetable oils, and dipropylene glycol. Our QA system is engineered to pre-empt every common rejection trigger seen in international procurement.

Dedicated single-species distillation lines

Patchouli, nutmeg, clove, and masohia are each distilled on separate, equipment-isolated production lines. No shared stills, no shared piping. This eliminates the cross-contamination risk that is endemic to rural Indonesian distillers operating shared infrastructure across multiple botanicals — and prevents safrole, myristicin, or eugenol traces from triggering EU IFRA or FDA rejections of our patchouli shipments.

GC-MS verification per batch

Full chromatographic profile generated for every production batch, cross-validated by ISO/IEC 17025 third-party laboratories (SGS, Intertek). Authenticity markers α-bulnesene, α-guaiene, and seychellene are verified in their characteristic ratios; the raw chromatogram is sent to buyers alongside the COA.

Stainless steel 304 / 316L throughout · Iron-content control

All distillation, condensation, and intermediate storage surfaces are pharmaceutical-grade stainless steel. No carbon steel anywhere in the wetted path. For Light and MD grades, additional polishing through 316L mirror-finished vessels keeps iron content below the cosmetic-formulation threshold of 1 ppm.

Adulterant exclusion screening

Every batch is explicitly screened for and reported "Not Detected" for: Gurjun balsam markers (calarene, α-gurjunene), cedarwood-derived fractions (α-cedrene, cedrol), synthetic patchoulol stereoisomers, dipropylene glycol (DPG), mineral oil residues, and undeclared blending with Pogostemon heyneanus (Indian patchouli).

Why a multi-product facility is an advantage — when it's engineered correctly

Most Indonesian patchouli supply originates from rural Sumatran and Sulawesi cottage stills that share equipment across patchouli, nutmeg, and clove — introducing eugenol, safrole, and myristicin cross-contamination markers that cause downstream rejections under EU IFRA and FDA inspection. Our Magelang facility resolves this by operating physically separated, dedicated distillation lines per botanical species, audited and documented. The result: a patchouli oil whose GC-MS chromatogram is clean of foreign markers, traceable to a single species, and defensible to a tier-one buyer's QA team.

Regulatory Compliance & Documentation Dossier

Tier-one buyers no longer accept simple purity certificates. The dossier below accompanies every export shipment and pre-empts the regulatory friction that delays customs clearance in the EU and USA.

  • REACH Registration Status (Only Representative arrangement for volumes >1 MT/year)
    Included
  • IFRA 51st Amendment Conformity Certificate (patchouli oil is generally unrestricted but documented)
    Included
  • Allergen Declaration per Regulation (EU) 2023/1545 — limonene quantification per batch
    Included
  • EU CLP-compliant Safety Data Sheet (16-section GHS format)
    Included
  • Readiness for EU Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009 downstream formulation
    Included
  • Phytosanitary Certificate (Indonesian Agricultural Quarantine Agency)
    Included
  • Statement of Non-GMO / Non-irradiated origin (on request)

Bulk Wholesale Packaging & Logistics

Patchouli oil is classified as UN 3082, Class 9 (Environmentally Hazardous Substance, Liquid — Marine Pollutant), Packing Group III under IMDG, IATA, and ADR rules. Flash point exceeds 95 °C (closed cup), so the oil is not classified as flammable, which simplifies transport relative to most other essential oils. All packaging formats are UN-rated and engineered for 30- to 45-day ocean transit — and patchouli oil's quality typically improves through controlled aging during transit.

Storage & Shelf Life — Patchouli Oil Improves with Controlled Aging

Patchouli oil is one of the few essential oils whose olfactory profile improves over time. Properly stored, the harsh top-notes of fresh distillate mellow into a refined, balsamic, wine-like character that fine perfumery houses prize. Sealed in epoxy-lined steel or aluminum, stored at 15–25 °C, away from direct sunlight, with RH < 65 %, the oil remains stable and commercially viable for 5 years or more. Re-blanket headspace with nitrogen after partial use. Avoid contact with bare carbon steel, copper, and brass.
